Katy Perry exuded charm and showcased her intelligence, wit and football savvy during her fantastic Super Bowl XLIX press conference on Thursday, demonstrating that she is an extremely gifted entertainer through and through, even when her audience is a bunch of cynical media types.

But one thing she mentioned has started up the rumor mill regarding the possibility that there may be something going on between herself and Russell Wilson.

When asked by a reporter which team she will be rooting for on Sunday, Perry said the Seattle Seahawks, mainly due to her relationship with “good friend” Russell Wilson. The pop siren also mentioned that she and the quarterback keep in regular communication with one another.

“I was texting with my good friend Russell Wilson the other day, um, he’s actually been able to visit me and see my shows,” she said. “He’s a really good friend of ours and I was actually texting him, I was like, how do you prep for the Super Bowl? Like, what do you eat?”

After discussing her love of Girl Scout cookies and Wilson’s dietary habits, Perry segued back into which team she will be cheering for on Sunday.

“I love the Seahawks because of Russell and I’m going to publicly go for them,” she revealed.

Granted, nothing Perry said indicated or revealed that she and Wilson are anything more than friends. But sports gossip site Terez Owens reports it has been “scooped” that there may be more to the two superstars’ relationship than simple friendship.

As far as their respective public relationship statuses are concerned, Wilson announced last April he and his wife, Ashton, had filed for divorce amid ugly infidelity rumors.

Perry, meanwhile, reportedly had rekindled her romance with musician John Mayer according to gossip as recent as early January.

All that aside, the notion that Perry and Wilson possibly could be dating is speculative at best at this point. But if the barely substantiated rumors could be confirmed, it would be a match made in Super Bowl Media Hype heaven.
