Katy Perry showcases NFL knowledge, cracks Deflategate, Marshawn jokes (vids)
Katy Perry is a pure entertainer, plain and simple. She also seems to have the keen ability to know her audience, as evidenced by her tour de force performance during a press conference ahead of her performance in the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show.
Resplendent in a football-themed dress, the pop siren was able to crack not one, but two jokes that showcased that she has been paying attention during Super Bowl Week. Perry pulled a Marshawn Lynch by standing solemnly at the podium and uttering the Seattle Seahawks running back’s now-infamous phrase: “I’m only here so I won’t get fined.”
She also sneaked in a Deflategate joke when explaining the high-entertainment quotient involved in her performance, assuring everyone that “nothing in my performance will be deflated.”
Hardy-har-har. Well played, Miss Perry. Well played, indeed.
Perry also dropped some hints about what’s in store during her halftime performance.
“I’m probably the only person in Super Bowl history to bring a lion and sharks to the show,” she said.
About the sure-to-be outrageous outfit — one that reportedly will have to go through security before being brought into University of Phoenix Stadium — she’ll be sporting when she first struts out on stage, Perry said it will bring the heat.
“It’s going to be flaming hot,” she hinted. “Not the cheeto.”
Between this fantastic manipulation of Super Bowl Week’s biggest — and most overblown — talkers and the brilliant job she did in the role of celebrity guest picker on ESPN’s “College GameDay” a few months back, Perry has demonstrated that she has a pretty high football I.Q. … or some pretty savvy advisers.
