Derrick Rose spends day off attending Chicago Bulls fan’s funeral (photo)
Instead of doing countless other things to occupy his time on his day off, Derrick Rose instead chose to attend the funeral of a Chicago Bulls fan to pay his respects.
The Bulls point guard was in attendance at the funeral of Drake Adams in Chicago, a lifelong fan of the city’s NBA team who was an AAU coach and also served as a guidance counselor. Rose apparently was a family friend of the deceased and “supported what Drake did for the city,” per a post from Complex.
Drake’s cousin, who goes by the handle of ElSii on social media, posted a photo to Instagram of Rose attending the funeral as well as expressions of gratitude to the Bulls superstar for taking the time to make an appearance.
“Rose came to the funeral for my cousin Drake,” ElSii writes. “He prayed with us. He bowed his heads with us. He hugged me. He hugged us. He’s such a great individual. I never thought I would become a bigger Derrick Rose fan than what I was before today.. But that has changed. He will FOREVER have my support because he had our back today. So much love. Thank you.”
She also praised Rose for his “kindness” on Twitter.
Rose has been through a couple of tumultuous seasons due to serious injuries and has become something of a target of criticism due to his inability to stay healthy and the course he is taking to rectify that issue.
But it’s things like this — a generous, thoughtful and unselfish gesture he has performed at least once in the past — that makes him such a beloved figure in the city of Chicago.
Rose skipped out on a team visit to the White House recently in order to rest and receive treatment, something that demonstrates how important it was to him to support the grieving family and friends of a longtime fan.
