Rory McIlroy a big fan of Marshawn Lynch and how he deals with the media

Rory McIlroy understands all too well how difficult it can be at times dealing with the media, especially when one is in no mood to answer a litany a questions, even if one is obligated to do so. And that’s probably why he is such a huge fan of the infamously media-adverse antics of Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch.

The world’s number-one golfer took to Twitter over the weekend to praise Lynch, in particular how the running back once again complied with NFL rules and regulations regarding making himself available to the media, albeit on his own terms.

McIlroy even took time to defend himself to critics who questioned his admiration for Lynch and the running back’s antagonistic attitude regarding the media.

Following Seattle’s 31-17 win over the Carolina Panthers on Saturday by which the team punched its ticket to a second consecutive trip to the NFL Championship Game, Lynch, whose appeal of a previous $100,000 fine levied upon him for his media dealings was denied last week, satisfied the requirement that he speak with the reporters, but accomplished it in his now-patented peculiar manner.

As the media approached him, Lynch greeted reporters with a precautionary preamble.

Y’all want to try again, huh?” Lynch said as reporters approached him Saturday, via the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. “You all are gonna try again? That’s what we’re gonna do? Gonna try one more time? One more time? One more try? One more try. We’ve got one more try. I mean, y’all can try all y’all want, but that’s what we’ve got. I mean, I don’t know what to tell you. I’m just — thank you. I don’t know.”

Then Lynch got back to his customary standoffish and difficult demeanor, essentially answering every question with “I’m thankful.”

Given the litany of uncomfortable questions McIlroy has had to answer in recent years, from answering questions about the lengthy slump he endured before rocketing back to the pinnacle of the golf to enduring endless inquiries regarding his private life in the fallout following breaking off his engagement to Caroline Wozniacki, it’s no wonder the golfer is such a huge fan of how Lynch handles himself with the media. McIlroy in all likelihood wishes he could emulate Lynch’s behavior during his next press conference. Now that would be a sight to see.
