A’s send young Blue Jays fan care package after acquiring Brett Lawrie (pics)
To say that Amelia, a 6-year-old Toronto Blue Jays fan, has enjoyed something of a baseball-related windfall of goodwill over the holidays would be an understatement.
Amelia became something of an Internet sensation after a video went viral that documented her devastation upon learning that Blue Jays third baseman Brett Lawrie, her favorite player on the team, had been traded to the Oakland Athletics.
The video of Amelia’s heartbreak over the trade caught the eye of Lawrie himself, who then organized a meet-and-greet with the 6-year-old where he and Amelia enjoyed a pizza party for two.
I'm sure u guys all remember seeing this little girl on YouTube about me leaving the jays so I thot I'd surprise her? pic.twitter.com/AUNyRloTgi

Not interested on being left out in the consoling of young Amelia, the A’s, Lawrie’s new team, made some arrangements so that Amelia, if she were so inclined, could continue cheer on her favorite player, albeit while wearing a different uniform.
The A’s attempted to cheer up Amelia by sending her a thoughtful note along with a pretty large care package loaded with team-related memorabilia, a gesture the little girl clearly appreciated, as evidenced by photos uploaded to Twitter, presumably by her mother.
Note from @Athletics. Wow, truly unbelievable. @blawrie13 will fit in well here… #athletic #oakland #mlb pic.twitter.com/Q6S4TGPE7b
