Titans fan endorses ‘Suck for the Duck’ campaign, dons Marcus Mariota jersey (pic)

The Tennessee Titans went down to the Jacksonville Jaguars on a horrible installment of “Thursday Night Football,” losing by a score of 21-13.

The good news for the Titans (2-13), though, is that courtesy of the loss, the team leapfrogged the Jags (3-12) in its quest for better positioning in the 2015 NFL Draft. With another losing effort in its season finale, an arguably winner-proof game against the Indianapolis Colts, and the Titans will be in prime position to be one of the worst teams in the NFL season, putting them in prime position at snagging a prime-time player in the draft.

All the way back in October, an astute Titans fan, already reading the writing on the wall — concerning both the lost season and the diminishing prospects that either Zach Mettenberger and Charlie Whitehurst are a long-term solution at quarterback — launched a “Suck for the Duck” campaign.

The “Duck” that the Titans should “Suck” for is of course Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, the Heisman Trophy-winning signal caller and presumed top-level draft pick in April, perhaps even going in the top two or three selections.

Well, a Titans fan recently was spotted rocking a Mariota jersey, meaning at least one guy — and presumably many more — are fully on the “Suck for the Duck” bandwagon.

For all intents and purposes, it’s hard to blame him or anyone else for buying into the hope, although an Mock Draft has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers taking Mariota with the first pick with the Titans taking a defensive lineman with the second-overall pick.

Perhaps the Titans simply did not suck enough.
