Cam Newton injured in car accident, taken away in ambulance (pics/vids)
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton reportedly was injured in a car accident in the Charlotte area on Tuesday, per a report from the Charlotte Observer.
The accident reportedly occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. and included two automobiles, one of which apparently overturned in the wreck. The other car was located nearby as ambulance and rescue workers arrived. The overturned car apparently was Newton’s.
Jonathan Jones, who covers the Panthers for the Charlotte Observer, was on the scene and snapped photographs of the aftermath of the accident and posted them on Twitter.

Jones added in a subsequent tweet that “CMPD officer just confirmed to me Newton was driving. Said he was able to communicate.
UPDATE: A photo tweeted by the Charlotte Observer shows Newton appearing to smile as he’s treated by medical personnel.

UPDATE 2: The Panthers also issued a statement regarding the accident via Twitter.

UPDATE 3: WBTV’s Steve Crump reports that Newton was taken to the hospital only as a precaution.
