Eric Decker again discussing wife Jessie James Decker instead of football
New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker found himself once again in the position of being forced to defend his wife, country music singer Jessie James Decker, due to her outspoken nature and how it has caused another New York media firestorm.
Decker spent most of his time speaking to the media on Thursday talking about his wife, specifically related to a post on Instagram in which she responded to critics of her husband regarding his decision to sign with the New York Jets.
“So for all the people that have accused Eric of choosing money. You don’t know anything. He was never asked, called or offered anything from the Broncos! But we couldn’t be happier to be in NJ and NYC,” she wrote in an Instagram post since deleted, per the New York Post. “God has a plan for everything :))”
Decker’s wife, perhaps was responding specifically to former Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards who made some highly critical comments about the Jets wideout earlier this week.
“At the end of the day, in his situation he chose to go for the money as opposed to a contender,” Edwards said. “He’s getting his money’s worth.”
Decker insisted Thursday that his wife wasn’t specifically firing back at Edwards in her post.
“She wasn’t attacking anyone,” he said, per an ESPN.com report. “It’s just the overall perception of people. If we’re 9-3, this conversation wouldn’t be happening. I feel like the decision I made in March to come here was for good reasons. I believe this will eventually turn.”
Decker also maintains, as his wife argued in her since-deleted social media post, that he never received an offer from the Broncos.
“People sometimes don’t understand the free agency process,” Decker told Minnesota reporters ahead of the Jets’ game against the Vikings on Sunday. “It’s not like Denver was calling my agent to get me back.”
Concerning his wife, Decker admits he would prefer not to have to answer questions about her all the time — especially when he’d prefer to discuss football — but insists he wouldn’t want her to be any other way.
“It’s something where I don’t want to be standing here [and answering these] questions every time I’m at my locker, but I do love that she speaks her mind. It says a lot. As for the circumstances … we’ll talk about that.”
Decker previously had to defend his wife after she got into a social media war of words with Jets fans after she took offense to some snarky comments reacting to a seemingly innocuous Twitter post from her husband that backfired tremendously.
Jessie James Decker, who has benefited in both exposure and notoriety from the couple’s move from Denver to New York, has had a busy week, revealing her “hot new body” in a New York Post profile piece as well as taking to the airwaves, where she revealed that her husband has been left “depressed” by the Jets’ miserable season.
