This just in: Alexander Ovechkin is a pretty damn good hockey player (video)

Alexander Ovechkin is good at hockey. This was proven once again on Thursday night when the Washington Capitals superstar sniper pulled out a bevy of moves from his bag of tricks to stickhandle his way past Colorado Avalanche defenseman Jan Hejda on his way to scoring a highlight reel-worthy goal, one that proved to be the ultimate game-winner in a 3-2 victory.

After easily slicing and dicing his way through the Avs defense, Ovi somehow maintained control of the puck, controlled his momentum and took a backhand shot that didn’t make it in the net, missing wide left with the puck bouncing off the endboards. But Ovechkin got his own rebound as it landed back on his tape. He did not miss twice, as he buried the puck behind Avalanche goalie Reto Berra from a nearly impossible angle.

And here it is, in GIF form:

Amazing. Yeah, he’s pretty good.

The brilliant goal was Ovechkin’s ninth of the season, good enough for eighth in the NHL, and his third game-winner of this young season. While Ovi may be off to a slow start — for him — he is second in the NHL with 85 shots on goal, meaning that Ovechkin will keep on sniping and sooner or later, more shots will start finding the back of the net.
