Wheaties honors cancer-stricken Lauren Hill with commemorative box (photos)
Lauren Hill, the freshman basketball player at Mount St. Joseph who has inspired the masses — including NFLers Devon Still and Fred Jackson, among many, many others — with her grace and dignity as she battles inoperable brain cancer, received an honor reserved for only the greatest sports heroes when Wheaties unveiled a commemorative box in tribute to the 19-year-old.
“Lauren may have just hit the big time!” was attached to a post on the Layup 4 Lauren Facebook page featuring photos of the commemorative Wheaties box and Hill proudly showing it off.
Hill fulfilled her dream of playing college basketball on Sunday, scoring the first and final baskets in her team’s 66-55 win over Hiram College. She was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma last November, a condition which has no cure and is considered a fatal diagnosis, usually within a year.
Through a Jerseys for Lauren Auction, Hill is auctioning off autographed jerseys that were submitted by more than 200 colleges, per the New York Daily News. Proceeds go to The Cure Starts Now Foundation.
