Blake Griffin accused of choking, slapping man during club outing in Las Vegas
A man known only as Daniel claims he was involved in a violent confrontation with Los Angeles Clippers superstar Blake Griffin during an outing at a Las Vegas nightclub last weekend, per a TMZ report.
The alleged victim filed a battery report following the incident with the Las Vegas Metro Police Department. The TMZ report states the officers met with Daniel for an hour the following day.
The alleged incident reportedly occurred on in the early morning hours of Oct. 19 at the Tao nightclub in the Venetian hotel. According to a statement the alleged victim provided to hotel security, the altercation apparently was incited by the man known only as Daniel snapping a photo of the Clippers superstar, something that allegedly greatly irked Griffin.
Daniel alleges that Griffin “grabbed my phone with one hand” after being irritated by the flash, per TMZ’s accounting of the supposed events, which continues as follows:
Daniel says he didn’t let go of the phone because his ID and credit card were attached to it — so Blake grabbed his neck and began to squeeze while demanding Daniel give up his phone “or else.”
According to the statement, the two eventually separated after Blake took the phone — and when Daniel tried to ask for it back, Blake struck again … grabbing his neck and squeezing for a second time.
Daniel says when security finally got to the scene — Blake told them, “Get him the f**k out of this club.”
Daniel says Blake then “slapped me in the right side of my face.”
TMZ notes that efforts to reach Griffin to respond to the allegations have been unsuccessful.
An article from the Las Vegas Sun from Sunday corroborates that Griffin and some Clippers teammates were indeed at the nightclub (photo, above) where the alleged incident occurred on Saturday night.
Griffin, along with some teammates, reportedly dined at Tao after playing the Denver Nuggets earlier that night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. While that alone certainly does not add to the veracity nor the legitimacy of the alleged victim’s claims, it merely puts Griffin at the scene of the alleged crime.
Since details at this juncture concerning the alleged incident are sketchy at best, the claims made should be treated with some semblance of skepticism, at least until more details come to light. Moreover, Griffin should be allowed the opportunity to respond to the allegations before drawing any conclusions regarding the veracity of the alleged victim’s claims. There are two sides to every story whenever situations like these arise and it’s best to withhold making assessments or generalizations about what may and may not have occurred until all parties involved are allowed to comment.
