Prince Amukamara on comments about his sex life: ‘Yeah, yeah, I’m getting laid’

New York Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara is having a great start in his fourth season in the NFL. With seven passes defensed and two interceptions, he’s more than halfway to his 2013 season total in the former statistic and already doubled his count in the latter.

His teammate, safety Antrel Rolle, has an interesting theory as to why his fellow member of New York’s secondary is playing so well this season.

He’s getting some.

Amukamara was married over the offseason. A devout Christian, he abstained from premarital sex. So, after he wed Pilar Davis (above, with Prince, in 2012), he started getting busy off the field. And then started producing on it. At least according to Rolle’s reasoning.

You know, free from all the pent-up tension, energy and … so on and so forth.

“I think it all ties into one another, as far as him getting married, being able to (have sex),” Rolle said about Amukamara, via the New York Daily News . “He’s just developing more as a man and accepting challenges and being the dominant player that we need him to be that we know he’s capable of.”

Rolle, who’s “just being honest,” mind you, says it’s all about “swagger.”

“For a man, that could definitely help him out. For a man … I’m just being honest … it’s helping him out. He walks around with a little more swagger, which is something that we need, which is something that we love,” Rolle added.

Makes sense.

Amukamara addressed his strongly held Christian beliefs in an interview with Muscle & Fitness last year.

“I grew up Catholic, so it just started out as one of those things,” Amukamara said in the interview, via the New York Post. “I’d think, ‘If I do this, maybe I can get to heaven,’ so I said no drinks, no sex, all the big things. As I grew up, I realized that’s not what it’s about. It’s about having a relationship with Jesus. It’s not about: ‘Don’t do this. Don’t do that.’ But still, it’s just one of those things I haven’t done, and I don’t see any benefit to doing it.”

The New York media, likely itching to ask Amukamara about his teammate’s comments about the recent changes in his life, were beaten to the punch by the cornerback himself. According to NYDN‘s Ralph Vacchiano, as Amukamara walked off the practice field Friday, he turned to the assembled media and said, “Yeah, yeah, I’m getting laid. I’m getting laid.”

Fantastic. No word on whether or not Amukamara, whether at any time, either since he was married or since the story surfaced, was ever showered with the refrain, “You’re going to dominate on the field cuz you’re growns up and you’re growns up and you’re growns up!”

Ha. A dated “Swingers” reference that doesn’t even make much sense in this instance. Solid.

Amukamara later did more seriously address Rolle’s comments … by not really commenting on them.

But he did show he has a sense of humor about how the story has completely taken on a life of its own.

Well played.
