Steve Smith trash talks Panthers: Take your ass back to Carolina, mow my lawn (video)

Steve Smith was highly motivated to face the Carolina Panthers last Sunday, and that’s putting it mildly.

When the season schedule of the Baltimore Ravens was released, there is no doubt that Smith circled the date he and his bullying new teammates would face his former team and has been fervently eying it since then, looking forward to the opportunity to prove he has plenty left in the tank of his 35-year-old body.

Smith warned the Panthers following a long touchdown early on in the season that he would be coming after them on the gridiron with revenge on his mind, screaming on the sidelines, “Hey, if you (expletive) think I can’t play. You’re gonna find out in Week 4, (expletive)!”

Well, Smith made the Panthers pay for cutting him loose Sunday, catching seven passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns in Baltimore’s 38-10 victory. Comeuppance was served by Smith on that day, it’s fair to say.

Smith, never one to let his play on the field do all the talking — even though that often would be sufficient — unloaded on the Panthers once again, dropping some serious smack talk on the team while on the sidelines in a manner that only Smith arguably could pull off.

Smith’s oratory sideline smackdown was captured by cameras and aired on this week’s episode of “Inside the NFL.”

“This is a nail in their coffin. You’re dead,” Smith yells into the camera, as he pantomimes hammering nails into the coffin for illustrative effect. “Now, take your ass back to Carolina. Make sure you mow my lawn, too, while you’re out there. Keep it clean for me.”

BOOM! Roasted!

Cameras also caught Smith making some post-game comments in the locker room.

“An old man playing a young man’s game, so we’re all going to have to ice up,” Smith said, making a reference to a popular trash talk line often used by the veteran wide receiver.

Of course, dropping smack talk is nothing new for Smith, as he has cultivated the ability to such a degree it is like a finely honed verbal weapon at this point.

Shortly after he signed on with the Ravens, Smith threatened a gory scene was in store for the Panthers if he ever took the field against them, saying, “Put your goggles on cause there’s going to be blood and guts everywhere.”

Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams had some fun with the “blood and guts” comments Smith made by donning goggles in the locker room. Odds are Williams ain’t laughing now.
