Dez Bryant approves of comparing reaction to big hit to ‘Boyz n the Hood’ scene (pic)
Internet wisenheimers had a field day mocking and ridiculing Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant over the way he reacted to a vicious hit he suffered during Sunday night’s 28-17 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
During the first half of the losing effort and the Cowboys struggling mightily, Tony Romo thew his third interception on a severely underthrown ball to Bryant over the middle.
As 49ers safety Eric Reid made the pick, the Niners’ other safety, Antoine Bethea, laid a punishing, violent and devastating hit on Bryant, who was up in the air, defenseless and unable to protect himself from the savage contact.
It was a particularly brutal shot and Bryant was down on the turf for some time.
The play quickly became a source of snarky inspiration for the wiseacres on the Internet, spawning a bevy of mocking memes making light of the hit Bryant took.
The funniest thing, though, is that Bryant thought the memes were pretty hilarious, especially one in particular.
ESPN Dallas’ Tim McMahon reports that the enigmatic wide receiver found the one where the way in which his body contorted upon impact is compared to the pivotal scene in the 1991 classic “Boyz n the Hood” when Ricky is shot and killed by the Bloods.
Bryant thought so as well.
“Truthfully, that was funny,” Bryant said. “I laughed myself. The funniest was the ‘Boyz in the Hood.’ When Ricky was running in the alley. That was pretty funny.”
Bryant deserves a lot of credit for having such a good sense of humor about it, given the shot to the back must have been tremendously painful. Not as painful as getting actually shot in the back in a gangland killing, but pretty painful nevertheless.
