Steve Smith cusses out Panthers following Sunday’s 80-yard touchdown (videos)

When the Carolina Panthers cut loose longtime wide receiver Steve Smith during the offseason, the fiery, hot-tempered and highly competitive Baltimore Ravens veteran mostly took it in stride. But when prompted to discuss what he expected if his old team and his new team ever were to meet up on the gridiron, Smith did not mince his words.

“Put your goggles on cause there’s going to be blood and guts everywhere,” the outspoken Smith threatened.

The NFL schedule makers did Smith — and fans everywhere — a favor by scheduling a Week 4 showdown between the Ravens and Panthers.

Smith had a sparkling regular season debut with the Ravens in the team’s Week 1 division game against the Cincinnati Bengals, catching seven balls for 118 yards and a touchdown in Baltimore’s 23-16 loss.

The above-mentioned touchdown was an 80-yard dazzler, featuring Smith’s trademark toughness, as he stiff-armed corner Adam Jones as he raced to the end zone, violently throwing “Pacman” to the turf like a rag doll before scampering the final few yards to six points.

Wow. Vintage Smith, to be sure.

More demonstrations of vintage Steve Smith subsequently occurred on the Ravens sideline. A clearly pumped-up Smith saw cameras and seized the opportunity by letting loose upon the Panthers in an impassioned tirade dotted with obscenities.

“Hey, if you (expletive) think I can’t play,” Smith screams into the camera. “You’re gonna find out in Week 4, (expletive)!”

Again, vintage Smith. The Ravens-Panthers game in Week 4 should be a real humdinger. As Smith warned, better put your goggles on. It could get messy.

Better yet, don’t even bother bringing a lunch. The Ravens will just steal it anyway. Along with your spork.
