ESPN is reporting on Michael Sam’s showering habits, in case you’re curious (video)
Everyone knew going in after he was drafted by the St. Louis Rams that there was a pretty good chance that the media coverage of Michael Sam would feature some hiccups. In fact, given Sam is the first openly gay player in NFL history, it was a virtual certainty that sooner or later, some network, newspaper or other media entity would stick its metaphorical foot in its proverbial mouth when trying to play up any possible angle related to how he is interacting with teammates and how it may or may not be affecting his relationships with other players.
Well, on Tuesday, ESPN went ahead and reported on Michael Sam’s showering habits. Because, you know, news.
Reporter Josina Anderson was assigned the Rams beat at least for Tuesday, and in a segment discussing how Sam is fitting in with his new teammates, Anderson dropped this nugget.
“Another Rams defensive player told me that ‘Sam is respecting our space’ and that, from his perspective, he seems to think that Michael Sam is kind of waiting to take a shower, as not to make his teammates feel uncomfortable.”
There you have it. ESPN is reporting that Michael Sam may be waiting to take a shower out of respect for his teammate’s comfort. Granted, it’s not a certifiable fact, nor has it been confirmed with Sam himself — not that would be an awkward line of questioning — but it’s possible, at least according to one of Sam’s teammates. Maybe. Because inquiring minds want to know. Or something.
