Janet Gretzky posts footage of Dustin Johnson ‘putting on a clinic’ in bunker (video)
As was learned last week, Dustin Johnson is spending his leave of absence — or imposed exile depending on which story that emerged a few weeks ago is the accurate one — holed up at Gozzer Ranch Golf and Lake Club near Couer d’Alene, Idaho along with his fiancée Paulina Gretzky and his soon-to-be in-laws.
Johnson, who said he was going to seek professional help for some personal issues, appears to be more inclined to take it easy, caddying for Paulina, even hitting the course himself for a few rounds, although he may be in fact be receiving some semblance of treatment in between rounds of golf.
While Paulina has been remarkably quiet on the social media front since Johnson pulled out of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational a few weeks back days before he announced his leave — a subsequent report indicated he had been suspended by the PGA Tour for six months after testing positive for cocaine, something the tour later denied — her mother Janet Gretzky posted a video of Johnson tooling around in a bunker in front of a gaggle of gawkers, writing on Instagram how Johnson was, “putting on a clinic at member guest.”
Why Gretzky, the potential mother-in-law of Johnson, would choose to draw unneeded attention to the golfer and his activities when maintaining a lower profile may be in order and advisable, is an interesting thing to ponder.
While it’s not like he’s doing anything wrong — and everybody was made aware last week of what Johnson has been up to anyway — it just seems like she is inviting criticism of the star and drawing unneeded attention to what he may or may not be doing to straighten out his life when he needs neither of those things right now.
Wayne Gretzky reportedly told Johnson in no uncertain terms that the golfer had to clean up his act or the wedding could be off. Maybe this was Janet’s way of throwing her support behind Johnson. Either way, it’s arguably a questionable decision to post the video.
