LeBron James losing weight, starting to look like Christian Bale in ‘The Machinist’ (pic)
According to multiple reports, LeBron James is making a serious effort this offseason to doing the little things off the court with the goal of prolonging his career.
James, who somehow became a 29-year-old veteran in the blink of an eye, is listed as 6-8, 250 pounds on the Cleveland Cavaliers’ roster on NBA.com, although many believe his playing weight has him tipping the scales at about 265.
LeBron clearly is not packing on that much on his statuesque frame any longer after reportedly cutting carbs out of his diet this summer.
James posted a photograph on Instagram on Monday which showcases a leaner, meaner version of himself.
James makes no mention of his altered physique in his Instagram post, but ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports on Twitter that James did in fact “cut carbs this summer” and “dropped significant weight.” That’s plainly evident.
Some may argue after looking at James in the above photograph that he nearly looks emaciated and that he’s dropped too much weight.
Obviously, there is plenty of time between now and the 2014-15 NBA season and for most folks it’s easier to put on weight than to lose it, so chances are that James will reassess and adjust his weight accordingly to ensure that he is in the correct shape to withstand the rigors of a grueling NBA season.
But at this point — and it should be noted that sometimes the camera can play tricks on the eyes and perhaps the angle of the photograph makes LeBron look much skinnier than he really is, but man, right now? He looks like he’s emulating Christian Bale’s approach to weight loss in 2004 when taking on the role of Trevor Reznik in “The Machinist.”
Okay, that may be a stretch — in fact, a huge stretch (Bale was more than freaky thin in that film … nightmare fuel thin, in fact) — but let’s hope James doesn’t go too crazy on this carb-free diet bit.
Even more, let’s hope that James hasn’t run afoul of some gypsy and become a victim of some kind of sinister curse…
