Derek Jeter’s new cleats crown retiring Yankees legend ‘King of NY’ (photo)

Derek Jeter donned a new pair of custom Nike cleats during Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers at Yankee Stadium.

The Jordan Brand kicks feature mentions of the retiring New York Yankees legend’s voluminous career accomplishments, but one notation on the shoe shows the indelible impact Jeter has made on New York City courtesy of his countless onfield heroics and accomplishments.

On the heel of the shoe is the message, “King of NY.” Hard to argue with that sentiment given the love affair that has existed between the ballplayer and the city over the years.

These cleats are the second pair of special edition, custom Jordan Brand shoes Jeter has donned in the past few weeks. Nike made Jeter a pair of special cleats made solely for his final All-Star Game appearance at Target Field in July.

It stands to reason this isn’t the last pair of custom cleats Jeter will be sporting during his season-long farewell tour.

But all shoe-based accolades and proclamations aside, we all know who the “King of New York” really is:

That’s right.
