Lehigh Valley IronPigs rock jerseys inspired by Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ (pics)

On Thursday night in Allentown, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs — the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies — donned a jersey that arguably was among the most highly anticipated alternate gimmicky jersey of the minor league baseball season … and that’s saying something, as this season has afforded a plethora of goofy getups that have or will be showcased in small town ballparks this summer (see here and here and here and here for just a small sampling).

As noted in late June, the IronPigs announced it was holding a combo platter of a special event night on July 24 that paired the general theme of “80s Night” with a focus upon the King of Pop with “Michael Jackson Night.”

And the latter aspect of the night at the ballpark was highlighted by the team wearing jerseys inspired by the red leather jacket MJ sported in the iconic ’80s video for “Thriller.”

The jerseys did not disappoint, either. In fact, simply seeing them could very well elicit a “Hee hee hee” from the average Michael Jackson fan.

Sadly, the team did not bust out the “Zombie Dance” before, during or after the game. What a shame. The IronPigs front office honchos really should take stock and the decision, beginning and ending with a look at the “Man in the Mirror.” Or woman. Or whatever.
