Last season easily was one of the most disappointing and frustrating seasons in Reggie Wayne’s otherwise highly productive NFL career. The Indianapolis Colts wide receiver tore his ACL in a Oct. 14 game against the San Diego Chargers and it was announced the next day that he would miss the remainder of the the 2013 NFL season.

So it should come as no surprise that Wayne is more than eager to get back on the field, even if it is only for training camp, a necessary component of football that signifies the transition from the offseason to the ramp up to the regular season. Typically, training camp is a thing most NFL players greet with a grunt, shrug and otherwise belabored contempt.

But not Wayne. Not this season. He is so pumped for Colts training camp, which begins on Wednesday with the full squad reporting to Anderson University in Anderson, Ind., that he arrived in a manner befitting a state known for its passion for auto racing.

Yep, Wayne showed up in an Indy car. Awesome.

With the assistance of IndyCar driver Ed Carpenter, Wayne rolled in to camp in a way that odds are has never been done before, even in Indiana, where auto racing is as much of the sports-loving lifeblood of its residents as if NFL football. Probably.

The Colts shared a video of Wayne’s high-octane arrival via Twitter and Instgram.

Awesome. Now that’s how an entrance is made, folks. Some additional photos culled from the ranks of the Twitterazzi:

Killer Colts racing helmet. Nice.
