Claude Giroux arrested for ‘repeatedly grabbing the buttocks of a male police officer’
According to a report in the Ottawa Sun, Philadelphia Flyers star Claude Giroux spent the night in an Ottawa Police jail cell after an incident involving a male police officer outside The Great Canadian Cabin, an Ottawa hotspot located in Byward Market club district.
Sources and witnesses paint a slightly humorous but overall unfortunate picture of what occurred at approximately 9:00 p.m. during an evening of revelry where the Flyers star presumably was celebrating Canada Day, perhaps a wee bit too much.
They say officers were inside the bar when one officer had his butt grabbed by a patron. The officer told the patron not to behave like that, but was grabbed again.
At that point, the patron was taken outside and arrested. The officer involved did not initially recognize Giroux.
Ottawa Police have refused any comment on the incident. Police said they cannot comment unless charges are laid, but several sources did confirm to the Sun Giroux spent the night in jail.
The report further states that Giroux is expected to be released from jail on Wednesday without any charges filed.
But arguably the most mind-blowing detail from the Sun’s report is that “alcohol is believed to have been involved.”
Now that truly is hard to believe, right? Actually, no, no it isn’t. It would have been shocking had alcohol not been involved.
It is not yet known if Giroux has been released from custody, but the Flyers issued the following statement from General Manager Ron Hextall Wednesday morning:
“We are aware of reports surrounding Claude Giroux. Until we have more information, we will withhold making any further comment.” -Hextall

There you have it. That likely will be an awkward conversation between Giroux and Flyers brass, eh?
