Rex Ryan defends Eric Decker for skipping OTAs to attend CMT Music Awards
While some New York Jets fans, coaches, brass, etc. may have been left somewhat irked by Eric Decker’s decision to skip out of Wednesday’s Organized Team Activities in order to attend the 2014 CMT Music Awards, head coach Rex Ryan isn’t one of them.
Decker, who signed a $36 million free agent deal this past offseason, has decided he would attend the awards show on Wednesday night along with his wife, country music singer Jessie James Decker, in Nashville, Tenn.
The wide receiver issued a tweet on Tuesday night announcing he would be presenting an award at the show alongside his gorgeous wife.
Who’s checking out the #CMTawards tomorrow night?! Tune in Wed at 8/7c to watch me and @TheJessicaJames present!

But if someone is looking for Ryan to rip Decker, they’re barking up the wrong tree.
“Speaking as a married guy, absolutely recommended that you would go to that,” Ryan said on Wednesday, according to the New York Daily News. “You ask for their support, you need to support them to. This is really voluntary camps, there’s no doubt about it. Things like this pop up. This is the time to do it; it’s not like it happened during the season. Certainly we support Eric and things. We treat it no different than any other teammate regardless of what they’re making.”
Ryan is absolutely correct in his assessment of the situation and his subsequent defense of Decker. It’s an OTA, for crying out loud, not a practice during Super Bowl Week. As far as Ryan is concerned, it’s a non-story, much ado about nothing.
Probably not hurting Ryan’s characterization of the situation is just how attractive Decker’s wife happens to be. You just know he’d love to get a look at Mrs. Decker’s tootsies, right? You know, with all the foot fetish stuff and whatnot.
Okay, that’s a joke, but let’s be honest here. Decker is missing an OTA to join his wife and to support her and her career. The couple did just welcome their first child, Vivianne Rose in March, after all. Which reminds me, remember when the couple posed for a provocative photo shoot for GQ while James was full-on pregnant? Yeah.
Moving on, as far any Jets fans who are perturbed by Decker skipping out on OTAs are concerned, perhaps the wideout ingratiated himself well enough to Gang Green Nation when he said, upon signing with the Jets, professed his respect for his new adopted hometown by saying that “New Jersey’s underrated.” That can’t have hurt.
