Landry Fields rocks wig, sings Lionel Richie’s ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ (video)

Toronto Raptors forward Landry Fields will make an appearance as a contestant on ABC’s upcoming summer time slot filler, “Dance Your Face Off,” and if his performance of Lionel Richie’s “Dancing on the Ceiling” is any indication, the folks in charge of the show may want to invite him back for a repeat performance.

Why? Because Fields absolutely kills it. From getting fully into character as the 1985 version of Lionel — which really isn’t that much different than Lionel from any other era — courtesy of a great wardrobe and an even better Afro wig, Fields belts Richie’s 1980s chart-topper to the rafters.

As a Lionel Richie fan from way back — and I’m not ashamed of admitting that whatsoever — it’s nice to see that the kids appreciate his timeless pop rock classics.

Maybe next time if Fields is asked back he can recreate arguably the greatest, cheesiest video from the 1980s — and that’s saying something — Richie’s ballad classic, “Hello.” Now that would be the good stuff. He could even reuse the wig, which is nice. All they’d need is some blind chick to sculpt a bust of Fields’ head.

All in all, the show has the potential of being amusing fodder for summertime television … or it will be a complete train wreck. Either way, it’s nice to see Debbie — excuse me, Deborah — Gibson getting some network television air time. Now if we could only find out what bridge Tiffany is sleeping under at this point.
