Lance Stephenson fined for Game 2 flop on LeBron James (video)
In a series between the Miami Heat and Indiana Pacers that looks to be a long, physical and thrilling battle between two equally matched teams willing to go blow-for-blow with each other, a sad flop by one of the best players in the Eastern Conference Finals thus far has caught the attention of the NBA.
Indiana Pacers guard Lance Stephenson reportedly has been fined $5,000 by the NBA for his egregious flop during a play when he was guarding LeBron James.
As James dribble-drove on a stutter-step at the top of the key late in the third quarter and the Pacers guard in pursuit, Stephenson was caught by an elbow from LeBron and immediately fell — or threw himself — to the floor, appearing — or behaving like — he has dazed by the blow. Unless James has a taser embedded into the flesh near his elbow, there’s no way Stephenson should have dropped like he did.
James ultimately was assessed a foul on the play, but the NBA didn’t buy what Stephenson was selling and subsequently levied the fine.
Stephenson led all scorers in the game with 25 points. He also added 7 assists and 6 rebounds in an 87-83 losing effort that leaves the series tied at one game apiece heading into Game 3 in Miami.
