Shamone! Mets pitcher Jenrry Mejia moonwalks off mound after strikeout (GIF)

Like a blast straight out of the distant past, New York Mets pitcher Jenrry Mejia went deep into the vault of antiquated dance moves by busting out the moonwalk after striking out the New York Yankees’ Brett Gardner in his first relief outing in two years during Monday’s game.

Using the mound like Michael Jackson used the stage at the “Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever” on that now-historic night all the way back on March 25, 1983, Mejia kicked up dust as he sashayed toward the dugout in moonwalk fashion.

If MLB microphones somehow captured audio of Mejia going “He he he” as he scuttled off the mound it needs to be released immediately.

In a strange bit of cosmic coincidence, Mejia broke out the moonwalk the night before Jackson’s posthumous album, ‘Xscape,” was released. It’s like Jackson returned to the material world and treated the pitcher’s subconscious like Macaulay Culkin. Or something.

As far as originality goes, Mejia deserves high marks. I cannot recall another time a pitcher has busted out that move in celebration. At the same time, pretty much every baseball player who has ever donned a major league uniform has mastered one of the King of Pop’s other infamous dance moves: The crotch grab.
