Andrew McCutchen cries ‘fowl’ on field invaders, tries to chase off ducks (video/GIFs)
Sure, as far as field invaders are concerned, the kind Andrew McCutchen was forced to deal with during the ninth inning of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Monday showdown with the San Francisco Giants at PNC Park aren’t nearly the irritating, human sort that typically trespass and disrupt baseball games.
With the Pirates holding on to a 10-9 lead, two ducks — presumably a couple — made themselves comfortable in the lush grass of the ballpark’s outfield.
Despite McCutchen’s best initial efforts, the mallards finally conceded its inconvenient roosting area and flew off after a bullpen catcher chucked his glove in the birds’ direction and flapping his arms.
Ha. Ducks. How utterly quacky, right?
In other non-waterfowl-related news from the game, the Pirates ultimately came up on the short end of an extra-inning affair that lasted an absurd 5 hours, 29 minutes, losing to the Giants by a score of 11-10 in 13 innings. McCutchen narrowly missed hitting for the cycle, coming up a home run short while going 4-7 with two singles, a double and a triple in the losing effort.
