Capitals fan creates ‘Game of Thrones’ sigil banners for every NHL team (photos)
Unless you have been living under a rock — or don’t spring for premium pay channels on cable — you are probably enthralled by the fourth season of HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” the blood-spattered, hyper-sexualized fantasy series based on the exquisitely brilliant “A Song of Ice and Fire” saga from novelist George R.R. Martin.
Rachel L. Cohen, a D.C.-based Washington Capitals fan and graphic artist, had a little extra time on her hands as of late — what with Alexander Ovechikin and the Caps not reaching the postseason — and decided to create sigil banners for every NHL team in the style of “Game of Thrones” and inspired by other works of epic fantasy.
The results? Phenomenal.
Awesome. The Stanley Cup sigil is pretty bad ass, too.
Obviously, this is not the first time “Game of Thrones” and the world of sports have intersected, as another artist put together these NFL sigils last year.
Cohen writes on her tumblr that she put this all together in one week and adds that she may do some throwback sigils for NHL teams. Martin could learn a thing or two from this young woman about how to not take forever to release “The Winds of Winter,” the sixth book of “A Song of Ice and Fire.” But hey, at least those of us who have read the first five books can look forward to “A World of Ice and Fire” reference book in October, right?
