Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask nearly drilled by octopus prior to Red Wings game (GIF)
As Boston Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask stood on the ice while the national anthem was being played before he and his teammates squared off against the Detroit Red Wings in Game 3 of the teams’ NHL Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series, a Red Wings fan nearly drilled him with an octopus.
The chucking of an octopus onto the ice surface, a tradition since 1950 that once symbolized the amount of wins necessary to win the Stanley Cup in that era. Eight wins, eight legs. Did I really need to explain that? Doubt it.
Well, Rask very nearly almost got smacked upside the head by a heaved load of slimy cephalopod mollusc, appeared startled, but clearly was unshaken by the close call, as the netminder went on to stonewall the hometown Red Wings, stopping all 23 shots he faced for a 3-0 shutout win that gives the Bruins a 2-1 series edge.(GIF via @PeteBlackburn)
