Phillies use kids’ drawings for pics of starting lineup used on jumbotron (pics)

For the team’s first Sunday game of the season at Citizens Bank Park, the Philadelphia Phillies relied upon drawings by children for the images of players in the starting lineup projected on the jumbotron.

Via the official Facebook page of the Phillies:

Kids draw the darndest things. Here’s your starting lineup from today, as sketched by Phillies Phundamentals children and shown on PhanaVision at our Turkey Hill Kid’s Opening Day at Citizens Bank Park. Enjoy – and let’s go Phils!

For those having difficulty attaching names to the nicely done portraits, The700Level provided the following key:

1. Chase Utley

2. Cody Asche

3. Dom Brown

4. Jimmy Rollins

5. Kyle Kendrick

6. Marlon Byrd

7. Ryan Howard

8. Tony Gwynn Jr.

And the pitcher on Sunday? Wil Nieves.

Awesome. Great concept, even better execution. Great job, kiddos.

Only problem is now I have the theme song from the “Saturday Night Live” sketch “Simon” with Mike Myers stuck in my head (“…and I like to do drawerings…”). Cheeky bum looker!

Phillies fan Alex Russian took some snapshots of the jumbotron during the game. Big League Stew did the rest, providing real photos of the players alongside their drawn portraits.
