Timberwolves’ Dante Cunningham jailed on domestic assault allegations (photo)


Minnesota Timberwolves forward Dante Cunningham was arrested early Thursday morning in the Minneapolis suburb of Wayzata and booked into Hennepin County Jail at approximately 6 a.m on allegations of domestic assault. He currently is being held without bail.

Details are vague so soon after the alleged incident, but the police report were called to a home at about 4 a.m. The woman involved in the alleged assault reportedly did not require medical treatment. Cunningham was not at the residence when police arrived but returned later and was arrested without incident after speaking with police.

The Timberwolves released the following statement acknowledging Cunningham’s arrest (via FOX9):

“We are aware of the matter involving Dante Cunningham and are in the process of gathering more information. Dante will not be traveling with the team to Miami this afternoon,” the Timberwolves said in a statement. “The Minnesota Timberwolves organization takes the matter very seriously and does not condone the type of behavior that is associated with this situation. However, we need to let the legal process run its course, and will have further comment at the appropriate time.”

The incident remains currently under investigation. Cunningham in in his second season with Minnesota and in his sixth in the NBA after being drafted out of Villanova in 2009 in the second round by the Portland Trail Blazers. He will be an unrestricted free agent following this season.
