It was a day filled with tragedy and heartbreak in Boston on Wednesday, as two firefighters lost their lives battling a nine-alarm blaze in the Back Bay neighborhood.
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who used to live in a nearby building but is believed to be renting a home in the area, was spotted watching the firefighters’ heroic efforts by Mark Chiaradonna, a fellow Boston fireman.
Chiaradonna snapped a photo of the New England Patriots quarterback watching the firefighters from the rooftop of a nearby building and posted it to his Twitter account.
Brady later issue a statement via his Facebook page:
“On behalf of my entire family, I want to extend my deepest sympathies and condolences to the Boston Fire Department and the families of our brave and selfless firefighters who gave their lives for our protection and safety today, and to the entire firefighting community who protect us each and every day. All of you will be in our thoughts and prayers.”
We all like to razz Brady from time to time for being a pretty boy and such — all in good fun, of course — but this heartfelt expression is a demonstration of the utmost class. Sure, a statement won’t change the tragedy that occurred, but words of sympathy are sometimes the best thing a person can give to others who are grieving.
