LeBron James, not making excuses, blames poor shooting on sleeved jerseys (video)
While it may seem somewhat contradictory, LeBron James informed reporters that he blamed his poor shooting night in the Miami Heat’s 111-87 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday night on his sleeved jersey.
James went 6-18 from the floor in the loss, including 0-3 from behind the three-point line.
“I’m not making excuses,” James said, as reported by the Sun-Sentinel. “I’m not a big fan of the jerseys, not a big fan of them. I’ve got to figure something out the next time I wear the short-sleeved jerseys.”
James also struggled with the protective mask he’s been wearing since breaking his nose a few weeks ago. James ripped it off his face during the first quarter and never put it on again.
“I don’t like it,” James said. “I got a message from my wife at halftime telling me to put it back on so I may be in trouble when I get home.”
But the talk of the night from LeBron was more about the damn sleeves on his jersey more than anything else. James said the sleeves seem to especially affect his long-range jumpers more than anything.
“I already don’t have much room for error on my jumpers,” James joked.
James’ comments following the loss on Thursday echoed his earlier critical comments of the NBA’s newfangled sleeved jersey, which for all intents and purposes is a marketing gimmick to get fans to buy more league gear.
James has indeed struggled with is long-range shot while sporting the sleeves. The previous two times LeBron wore a sleeved jersey, Christmas Day and the All-Star Game, James shot 0-4 and 0-7 respectively from the three-point line.
Here is what LeBron had to say following the NBA’s sleeved jersey experiment on Christmas Day:
But when is making an excuse considered not making an excuse? Any time a person qualifies a later statement by prefacing it with insisting he or she is not doing what they say they aren’t doing, it usually means that’s exactly what they are doing.
Wade was having none of it afterward, whiles saying he doesn’t like the sleeves much, he chose not to blame jerseys as the reason the Heat’s worse loss of the season, the team’s second in a row.
“It ain’t the reason we lost,” Wade said. “You’re just not used to it. They [the Spurs] didn’t have a problem with it. It is what it is. Let’s not make this about a jersey, please. We got our butts kicked. That’s it.”
Not making excuses. See? That’s how you don’t make excuses, LeBron.
