GAH! New Orleans Pelicans unveil ‘King Cake Baby,’ yet another nightmare fuel mascot (photos)

Seriously, what in the holy hell is wrong with the New Orleans Pelicans and their willingness to unleash terribly frightening, hell-spawned mascot demon-creatures upon its fans and the NBA at large?

We all recall — for some folks, in therapy — Pierre the Pelican, the new mascot the team introduced at the beginning of the NBA season. Pierre was so terrifying that the Pelicans executed a clever bit where the mascot was forced to undergo facial reconstruction surgery after an injury as a means to alter its creepy appearance (see here).

With it only being a few short weeks since fans attending Pelicans home games at Smoothie King Center were able to enjoy some NBA basketball without being terrorized by a demon bird, the team goes ahead and introduces the “King Cake Baby” mascot. And in doing so, unleashed yet another haunting, evil mascot upon the masses.

You see, the King Cake is a big New Orleans tradition round Mardi Gras time (see here for its history) and the baby is a part of that tradition. But as far as I can tell, the King Cake Baby isn’t supposed to cause nightmares.

But the one introduced during Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers is Grade-A nightmare fuel. Look at that thing. Look at it! But not too long, as it’s possible King Cake Baby can suck the soul right out of your body via your eyeballs straight through your computer screen.

Good grief, man. Again, what in the hell is wrong with the New Orleans Pelicans?
