Dirk Nowitzki’s ‘ugly’ buzzer-beater leaves Knicks fan shocked, awed, sad, dejected (videos)
The Dallas Mavericks won their third straight game on Monday night, edging the New York Knicks by a score of 110-108, courtesy of a clutch, buzzer-beating shot by Dirk Nowitzki.
Nowtizki’s 19-footer from the top of the key over Carmelo Anthony, who scored 44 points, caromed off the rim, bouncing high before miraculously falling through the net.
Even the Mavericks veteran forward couldn’t believe it went in.
“Once it went up, I figured it had a chance. I wasn’t quite sure it was going and then it actually went in,” Nowitkzi said, via NBA.com. “I didn’t even feel like celebrating, it was so ugly … But we’ll take the win and move on.”
Nowitzki’s clutch game-winner may have felt like a dagger in the heart to the Knicks and the team’s fans, but for one of those said fans — the guy in the gray hooded sweatshirt in the video below, it was so much more. It appeared, given his reaction, that not only did Dirk stick the dagger into his chest, the Mavs star twisted it a few times before extracting the still-beating heart straight out with surgical precision.
Check out his awesome reaction:
Hilarious. And sad. But that’s our take. One can only imagine the range of emotions this Knicks fan went through as he watched the ball hit the rim (“YES! Knicks win!”), bounce way up high (“NO! There’s no way it’s going in”), start its descent (“Uh-oh, uh-oh, uh-oh”) and fall through the net (“Ugh”).
Yeah, his emotions ran the gamut in just a few seconds. Poor guy.
