LeBron James admits he and D-Wade questioned wisdom of joining forces in Miami (video)
In a somewhat surprising but not shocking admission, LeBron James told Steve Smith that the emotional toll stemming from the enormous amount of pressure, the ensuing backlash from “The Decision,” the booing crowds on the road and the high expectations placed upon themselves caused he and Dwyane Wade to question from the onset whether teaming up with the Miami Heat was the best decision.
Despite saying the two were great friends, James admitted that when things were not going well and the Heat was not playing at the level the team was capable of on a night-to-night basis, the two became increasingly concerned. LeBron said the two would exchange looks and wonder, “Did we make the right choice, man?”
The video is a snippet of a longer piece that will air on NBA TV during All-Star Weekend. Enlightening stuff, and is sure to cause further discussion — if there wasn’t enough already, no matter how speculative — about what James may or may not do when presented with the opportunity to exercise an opt-out clause in his contract and become a free agent after the season.
We’ll have to wait and see. One thing is certain: It will be a heavily debated and much-discussed topic.
