Bubba Watson nearly aces TPC Scottsdale’s infamous No. 16 at WM Phoenix Open (video)

Bubba Watson knows how to entertain and make people happy (see the entirety of SOB’s Bubba Watson archives). It’s in his DNA. He cannot help but rise to the occasion when the situation calls for it.

That certainly was the case on Thursday during play at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Teeing it up on the famed 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale, Bubba nearly aced the par-3 — which is surrounded by an area that can accommodate nearly 20,000 screaming, notoriously raucous fans — leaving his shot seven feet from the hole.

After the shot, Bubba tossed his sunglasses into the crowd before knocking in his birdie.

Watson finished Thursday with a 7-under 64 and was tied for the lead with YE Yang heading into Friday’s second round.

Now that’s how you put on a show at the Phoenix Open. Expect more fireworks like Bubba’s performance throughout the rest of the tournament.
