Alexander Ovechkin scores absolutely sick goal from absurd angle (video/GIF)

Another night, another opportunity for Alexander Ovechkin to prove without a doubt he is one of the most gifted goal scorers in recent history, arguably one of the greatest of all-time.

Ovechkin scored an equalizer goal at the 12:44 mark of the second period in the Washington Capitals’ home ice tilt against the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night.

While the Caps ended up losing to the Sharks 2-1 in the shootout, as is often the case with most things Ovechkin does on the ice, he put on a show while doing so.

Ovechkin was almost below the faceoff circle when the took a feed from Karl Alzner. With Antti Niemi drifting across the crease to hug the right post, Ovie blasted a one-timer before the Sharks goaltender could get to his spot, beating him above the right shoulder. The shot was an absolute rocket and perfectly placed. The fact the Ovechkin took the shot from a ridiculous angle only increases the degree of difficulty.

It was Ovie’s 33rd goal of the season and he is leaving the players pursuing him in his wake. Sidney Crosby, Corey Perry and Patrick Sharp all have 25 goals on the season. A quick demonstration of my considerable math skills reveals that Ovechkin is eight-up on his closest challengers.

In case you didn’t know, Alexander Ovechkin? He’s pretty good. And stuff.
