Whasssssup? Peyton Manning sidesteps questions about neck, says he wants a Bud Light (video)

Fresh off the Denver Broncos dispatching the San Diego Chargers by a score of 24-17 on Sunday night to advance an AFC Championship Game showdown with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, Peyton Manning found himself at the podium fielding questions regarding an ESPN report that the quarterback will undergo a physical examination of his neck per the terms of the deal he signed with the team.

If the results of the exam are encouraging, Manning undoubtedly will return for another season. If not, and the examination reveals a raised potential for long-term negative effects and increased risk of injury, the 37-year-old veteran may be forced to consider whether retirement is the best and safest option.

Of course, reporters latched on to the story and peppered Manning with questions about the report during his post-game press conference.

As Manning does when sidestepping a blitzing linebacker — that being clumsily (he was always immobile, so much more at his advanced age) — Manning instead opted to make mention of his desire for a brewed libation to satiate his thirst and aid in relaxation following a huge win.

“What’s weighing on my mind is how soon I can get a Bud Light in my mouth,” said Manning. “That’s priority number one.”

Ha. While it’s hard to argue with Manning’s desire for a cold one … Bud Light? Seriously? With all the excellent microbrews available in the Denver area, Manning wants a Bud Light? To each their own, I guess, although Bud Light sure appreciated the free publicity.

And yet, Papa John is wondering why Pey-Pey has forsaken him? Manning could have thrown in a pizza reference there, right?

(* All apologies are in order for referencing the “Whassup?” Bud Light advertising campaign that was far more annoying than clever, even in its heyday)
