Panthers kicker trolls Cam Newton by hanging Seminoles hoodie in QB’s locker (pic)

In a well-executed display of locker room trolling, Carolina Panthers kicker Graham Gano hung a Florida State Seminoles hooded sweatshirt in the locker of quarterback Cam Newton on Monday. Not only that, he posted photographic evidence of his shenanigans to Twitter for all the world to see.

CAM! Rather, BAM!

It’s funny because the Seminoles take on the Auburn Tigers in the BCS National Championship Game on Monday night and Newton is an Auburn alum who led the Tigers to a national championship in 2010. So hanging a hoodie for the team that Newton’s Tigers face in the title game is meant to be something of a zinger directed at Cam’s obvious college football allegiances and a potshot at who he will be rooting for in Monday’s game.

It’s surprising I had to explain that to all you readers. What’s that? I didn’t? Well, then the previous paragraph was one colossal waste of time, huh? Got it.

But how about this detail? Graham Gano attended Florida State and played football for the Seminoles so it makes perfect sense that he would not only be cheering on Florida State but also that he would take a dig at Auburn. You know, where Cam Newton played football. Synergy!

And thank goodness Brad Nortman, the Panthers punter, is Gano’s holder — and not Newton — on field goal attempts. Otherwise, there’s a good chance Newton would botch a hold in order to exact revenge on Gano during next weekend’s divisional round playoff showdown with the San Francisco 49ers, making Gano look the fool.

Okay, make that there’s no chance Newton would entertain committing such an egregious act of self-defeating tomfoolery. Unless…

Fine, fine, no chance.
