Rams punter Johnny Hekker push for Pro Bowl shirts: ‘HELP HEKKER GET LEI’D’ (pic)

St. Louis Rams punter Johnny Hekker had an embarrassing — but nice — surprise waiting for him when he arrived in the locker room on Friday morning: T-shirts that apparently are meant to help orchestrate a campaign to get the punter a trip to Hawaii and a spot in the 2014 Pro Bowl.

As noted by The Big Lead, Hekker’s 43.9 yards punting average is tops in the NFL, yet he isn’t even in the top 10 in Pro Bowl voting. It’s all politics.

That’s why his teammates, or the organization — or both — decided to get some shirts printed up that should help Hekker’s Pro Bowl push.

Featuring a photo of the punter, the message in a semicircle over the image indicates that folks should “HELP HEKKER GET LEI’D” while the message below the punter’s pic makes the argument that any vote for Hekker is “FOR THE REAL JOHNNY FOOTBALL.”

I’m not too sure about that sentiment, but the shirts definitely are creative and compelling. Although Hekker was a bit embarrassed by the fuss, tweeting, “Stroll into work today and find one of these in every locker….so embarrassed but I love the support.”

Indeed. And we all know that “Happiness is getting lei’d in Hawaii.”
