Andrew McCutchen proposes to girlfriend during appearance on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ (video)

Pittsburgh Pirates star Andrew McCutchen made an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that aired on Wednesday. The reigning National League Most Valuable Player utilized the nationally syndicated platform to pop the question to his girlfriend Maria Hanslovan.

After playing a romantic video for the love of his life, McCutchen got down on bended knee and proposed, saying (as transcribed by For the Win):

“I always envisioned that I would be on the highest mountain in the world,” he said, “and that my voice would be as loud as a lion’s roar — times a billion — so the whole world could hear me, just to tell you how much that I love you.

“I didn’t do any of this for the publicity, I didn’t do any of this for the recognition. I did this to show you that if I could tell the whole world how much I love you, I would do that.”

Then he got down on one knee. Ellen DeGeneres, who was in on it from the beginning, gasped.

“So Maria, will you marry me?”

And wouldn’t you know it? She said yes!

Here’s a Vine video that only contains the magical moment:

Congrats on the newly engaged couple.

And if you suspect that McCutchen wasn’t serious about his plans to propose, check out this photo of him getting primped before the show (via Hardball Talk):
