Blatant Homerism

Christian Ponder, wife Samantha, dress up as ‘Sandlot’ characters for Halloween (pic)

As reluctant as I am to admit this, lest I attract the scorn of the interwebs for committing such an egregious affront to 1990s cinema, I have never seen “The Sandlot.” That does not mean that I cannot appreciate the effort of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder and his wife, ESPN sideline reporter Samantha Ponder, elected to infuse their Halloween costumes with a bit of adolescent nostalgia by dressing up as characters from the aforementioned film.

In yet another example of an NFL quarterback and his wife teaming up for Halloween costumes, Ponder is dressed as “Squints,” a character who, according to The Big Lead, was not as muscular as the Vikings quarterback. Mrs. Ponder is dressed as Wendy Peffercorn.

It’s nice to see that Ponder, despite the fact that his career as a starting NFL quarterback appears to be nearing its end, still can enjoy Halloween with his lovely wife. Separating one’s work life from personal life is important. That is why I rarely make dated pop culture references when I’m not working on the Sportress of Blogitude. Okay, that’s a total lie.
