Dude takes off Dr. Pepper shirt, pours soda on himself behind John Kruk (GIF)
An old ad jingle for Dr. Pepper way back when included the line, “Wouldn’t you like to be a Pepper, too?” While I enjoy Dr. Pepper just fine, if wearing a Dr. Pepper shirt while standing behind ESPN’s “Baseball Tonight” crew during a “SportsCenter” broadcast and then removing said shirt only to next pour pop all over yourself is one of the requirements of being a Pepper, well, then no, no thank you. I do not want to be a Pepper, too, thank you very much.
The scene took place during ESPN’s coverage of Game 1 of the World Series at Fenway Park between the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals and mostly involved John Kruk, as he was the panelist that Dr. Pepper Dude stood behind during his soda-pouring antics. It was quite the scene.
Too bad the stunt didn’t occur in the middle of summer. I can only imagine how the insects attracted to all those lights would have descended upon him, sending Dr. Pepper Bro scurrying in terror as a swarm engulfed him. Actually, that would have been a scene.
So, was it a promotional stunt by the marketing wizards at Dr. Pepper or just a lone wolf going through with the stunt simply on his own volition? Hard to say, but either way, the guy likely will rise to “pop” stardom on the Internet soon enough.
