Pirates fan makes good on 1992 promise to son, dresses as pirate for game (video)

Charlie Petredis is a lifelong Pittsburgh Pirates fan and once worked as a vendor at the old Three Rivers Stadium way back when. Back in 1992 — the last time the Pirates were in the MLB postseason — Petredis promised his son Charlie Jr., then a toddler, that if and when the Pirates ever returned to the playoffs, he would don pirate garb and wear it proudly to a game.

Petredis certainly didn’t think — or better put, hope — that the Buccos’ postseason drought would last so long. But it is what it is, and the lessons he tried to instill in his son about being a dedicated Pirates fan all those years ago remain as true¬† today as they did then, so Petredis made good on his promise, going full-on pirate as he attended Tuesday’s wild card game along with Charlie Jr., now 25.

(puts on “Cat’s in the Cradle” by Harry Chapin, tries not to keep it together–¬† “I’m gonna be like you, dad. You know I’m gonna be like you…”)
