Alabama Crimson Tide fan’s obit: ‘…left us to join Coach Paul ‘Bear’ Bryant…’
There is no doubt that fans of the Alabama Crimson Tide football team live and die with their team. And even in death, the recently deceased are inextricably pulled in by the gravity of the program, in particular the cosmic, otherworldly draw of legendary coach Paul “Bear” Bryant as they shuffle off this mortal coil.
Look no further than the obituary of Glenn Nunley, whose family made sure that his allegiance to the Crimson Tide football program was mentioned, indicating that it will always be a part of him, even in death (via Legacy.com).
“Glenn Scott Nunley, known as “Rocco” to close friends, left us to join Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant in our heavenly Father’s coliseum on August 10th, 2013.”
Certainly not the first time — and definitely not the last — where a beloved sports figure was mentioned in an obituary. Sometimes it’s good, other times, not so much.
In all seriousness, the man passed away at the age of 51, far too young. Condolences to his family and friends.
