This just in: Yasiel Puig is good at baseball, guns down Marlon Byrd at third (video)
Yasiel Puig made more than a splash immediately after making his major league debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers in early June (see here — and that’s just barely skimming the surface).
Since then, there has been little to no drop-off in his play. In 242 at-bats in 63 games, Puig is batting an astounding .368, with 11 home runs and 27 RBI. He arguably has been the catalyst that propelled the Dodgers out of its early season doldrums to a 70-50 record courtesy of some incredibly lights-out, red-hot play. The team now leads the National League West by 7.5 games after beating the Mets in extra innings for the team’s eighth straight win.
Puig’s ever-evolving greatness was again demonstrated on Wednesday in a game against the New York Mets. This time, the highlight came in the outfield, when he gunned down Marlon Byrd at third with an absolutely rocketed laser throw from right field after chasing down a flared single down the right field line.
