Rangers top Angels in three straight games on walk-off homers (videos)
On Wednesday night, Adrian Beltre smacked a home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Texas Rangers to a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The third baseman’s walk-off round-tripper made it three consecutive games that the hometown team has vanquished its division rival by way of the walk-off.
On Monday, it was catcher Geovany Soto in a 4-.3 win. Tuesday, center fielder Leonys Martin played the role of late-game hero in the 10th inning in a 14-11 victory.
Here are all three of the dramatic, walk-off winners (video via MLB.com):
That’s gotta sting a bit for the Angels, right? And while the Angels are scuffling along horribly this season — and that’s putting it mildly (a 48-58 record with a payroll in the range of $119 million and $123 million, depending on where you look) — to lose three consecutive games in such heartbreaking fashion has to be difficult to handle … for the players as well as the team’s fans. Ouch.
The Rangers became the first team since 1999 to pull off such a remarkable run of walk-offs and now are just four games back of the American League West division-leading Oakland A’s.
