Hunter Mahan, wife, newborn make appearance on ‘Good Morning America’ (vid)
Hunter Mahan, his wife Kandi and the couple’s brand-new baby daughter Zoe made an appearance on Wednesday’s edition of “Good Morning America.” Mahan made news over the weekend when he withdrew from the RBC Canadian Open heading into the third round with a two-stroke lead after he learned his wife had gone into labor.
Upon receiving word, Mahan boarded a flight and headed back to Dallas on Saturday so he could be at Kandi’s side in the delivery room. The PGA star fortunately made it back in time and was present when Kandi gave birth to little Zoe.
Discussing the possibility that Kandi was having a false alarm and it was much ado about nothing, Mahan said, “The best thing about it was that her water broke, it was so definitive. If it wasn’t and she was like ‘I’m having some contractions back and forth’ it would have been difficult to make a decision.”
“My first concern was to make sure I was in labor. We called Hunter immediately. The doctor assured me he would have time to make it.”
Everything turned out wonderfully for the Mahans, save for the fact that the brand new daddy missed out on a chance to win a tournament, something he is unlikely overly remorseful about and would be willing to do again a million times over.
Mahan thanked his sponsors for appreciating “what’s important in life” shortly after announcing Zoe’s birth on Twitter:
Both Baby and Mom are doing great. Thanks to all to my sponsors who appreciate what's important in life and all my fans for being Awesome!

The beneficiary of Zoe’s arrival — on the golf course, at least — was Brandt Snedeker, who pulled out a Canadian Open victory in Hunter’s absence. When asked if Snedeker owes the Mahan family anything and whether he should send a nice gift — something Snedeker said he would be more than happy to do following the win — Candi replied “That’s what we were thinking.” Touche.
