Tim Hudson’s wife tweets thanks to Eric Young, the man who injured her husband

The update on Thursday regarding the extent of Tim Hudson’s ankle injury hardly was surprising given the horrifying nature of what occurred on Wednesday night in a game against the New York Mets but the news remained disappointing. The Atlanta Braves veteran pitcher is out for the season with a broken ankle.

Hudson was severely injured on play during the bottom of the 8th inning as he attempted to cover first base after Mets outfielder Eric Young Jr. put the ball in play to the right side of the infield.

Young inadvertently stepped on Hudson’s right ankle while attempting to touch the bag with his foot and Hudson immediately went to the ground, writhing in pain.

While a total accident, Young instantly realized what had happened and was visibly shaken as he went back to check on Hudson. The young man remained out of sorts over what had transpired after the game. Young said afterward that he apologized to Hudson before the pitcher was carted off the field.

But in a strange twist — and a wonderful example of grace and dignity, Kim Hudson, the wife of Tim, sent out a tweet to Eric Young Jr. thanking him for “playing the game the right way.”

And Kim Hudson’s tweet to Young, in response to a tweet he had issued thanking people for their support:

A simple gesture, to be sure, but a noble one that has the extraordinary capacity to provide some semblance of comfort to a young man who feels horrible about his role in an extremely unfortunate and accidental incident.

On Wednesday night, Kim Hudson also tweeted out expressions of gratitude to both the Mets and Braves organizations:

Class acts, from Eric Young, Jr. to Kim Hudson, all the way around on this one.
